Sartaj hails from a small village named Amauli Kalan of Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh. In his village, the Muslim community is very backward and they earn their bread as farmers or as nomads. From around 90 families of his community, merely two or three boys are continuing their study after class 9 and he is amongst one of them!

Master’s Thesis: Domestic Violence in Times of a Pandemic

Purva Srivastava is pursuing an LL.B. (Hons.) degree at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore. She completed my undergraduate studies in Law and Politics from Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD), and she was supported by the Anil Divan foundation through the course of her undergraduate education. She also topped the entrance NLS exam in her category.In her words: “While I always aspired to study law, circumstances after my 12th prevented me from pursuing it immediately. However, during my undergrad at AUD, my interest in the field grew stronger, motivating me to prepare for and qualify the National Law School Admission Test (NLSAT). Securing admission to NLSIU was a dream come true. The experience here has been transformative. Learning under accomplished professors and being part of a diverse classroom, with peers ranging from civil service officers to bankers and doctors, initially felt overwhelming. However, this diversity has proven invaluable, exposing me to a variety of perspectives and opinions. The curriculum is practical and deeply relevant, making learning an enjoyable and enriching experience. Beyond academics, I am participating in moots and debates. As a member of the LawSoc committee at NLSIU, I assist in organizing talks, movie screenings, reading circles, and events like a recent heritage walk for students. The environment here challenges me every day and makes me get out of my comfort zone. Consequently preparing me for the future I envision for myself”.

P Kham Sian Muan Zou is a student who comes from Manipur and has come to Delhi to pursue his education in the aftermath of the violence in Manipur, that also affected his family. After his Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master of Arts in Political Science, he enrolled as a PhD candidate at the School of Legal and Socio-Political Studies, Dr B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi. His primary research interests include democracy, political theory, federalism, accommodation of indigenous rights in the Indian constitution, and politics of indigeneity with special reference to Northeast India.He has successfully completed the first semester of his PhD course work. He also published an article in the economic and political as well as a book review in Mainstream Weekly.In his words: “All these accomplishments were made possible due to your guidance and the invaluable support from the ADF.
